J. Walter Cahill was elected to the Executive Board in June 2000. Cahill began working as a stagehand in 1968. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in January of 1969. After serving with the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart, he returned home and resumed his career as a stagehand.
From 1987 through 2003, Cahill served as either Vice President, President, or Business Agent of Local 22. He has been a member on the Executive Committee of the AFL-CIO’s Union Veterans Council since its establishment in 2008. In 2016 he stepped down as 2nd IATSE Vice President. He continues to serve as the IATSE Political and Legislative Director.
