Fredericton Playhouse Goes IATSE!

FREDERICTON, NB – The province of New Brunswick continues to turn black and gold – the colours of the IATSE. On the heels of the Imperial Theatre becoming an IATSE house last month, the Fredericton Playhouse has joined its ranks.

After hearing about the success of the stagehands at the Imperial, the Playhouse stagehands also reached out to the IATSE. Support for representation was so strong that the Board ruled a vote was unnecessary. On June 8, the New Brunswick Labour and Employment Board certified IATSE Local 680 as the bargaining agent for all stagehands at the Fredericton Playhouse.

The beautiful 709-seat Playhouse was built in 1964. It has received numerous awards and, originally, was a gift from Lord and Lady Beaverbrook to the people of New Brunswick. Like their fellow stagehands at the Imperial, the ten new IATSE members are looking forward to working at this beautiful venue under their first agreement.
