IATSE and Editors Local 700 Win Arbitration Award

IA President Short Appoints Safety Chairman

The United States District Court (Central District of California) issued an Order confirming an Arbitration Award to a member of IATSE Motion Picture Editors Local 700 in a case brought before it by David Copperfield’s Disappearing, Inc. (DCDI), announced IATSE President Thomas C. Short.

The case involved DCDI’s deliberate failure to turn over compensation checks to a Local 700 Editor, and went to arbitration per the contract between the Company and the Union. The Arbitrator’s Award was issued to the Union’s member in an amount of over $54,000.00 in unpaid wages, plus interest. However, DCDI filed a motion with the Court to vacate, or modify the Arbitration Award.

The Court denied DCDI’s motion to vacate the Award, and further granted reasonable attorney’s fees and costs to the Union. The attorneys fees were added because the Court found that DCDI acted in bad faith.
