IATSE Local 764 Quilt Raffle Raises Over $11,000

IATSE Announces Agreement with NETworks

NEW YORK, NY, October 18 – Colleen Donahue, the Business Agent of IATSE Local 161 is the lucky winner of Theatrical Wardrobe Union Local 764’s Tenth Annual Quilt Raffle.  This year the raffle raised a record total of $11,204.00 to benefit the IATSE Political Action Committee.

Michael Michalski, an award winning quilter and a dresser on the Broadway production of “Wicked” designed the quilt, named “Stars of Broadway”.  It measures 89” x 89” and is made in batik fabrics in shades of blue.  As in previous years, volunteer members of the local assisted Michael with piecing, sewing, and quilting. Dozens of Local 764 members donated time to sell tickets in their workplaces and at the membership meetings of other New York locals. Erin Brooke Roth, Shannon Koger, and Sonya Wysocki served as Raffle co-chairs and supervised the ticket sales, assisted by Ashley Green from the Local 764 Office. Member Geoffrey Polischuk won the award for selling the highest number of tickets.

The Quilt Raffle is one of Local 764’s major yearly events, involving hundreds of members who buy and sell tickets.  Additionally, many members of sister locals purchase tickets, too.  Locals One, 52, 100, 306, and 751 all permitted Local 764 members to sell tickets at fall membership meetings of their locals, which alone raised hundreds of dollars.

Over the past ten years, because of the raffle, Local 764 members have become keenly aware of the importance of the IATSE PAC in supporting candidates for federal office who will be the voice of workers.  Raffle Chair Erin Brooke Roth said, “I am always amazed that we can raise over $11,000 by selling five-dollar raffle tickets.  That means hundreds of IA members have been made aware of the PAC, the importance of contributing to candidates who help workers, and the need for our Union to be politically active.  We are happy to be able to raise both money and awareness by using some of the traditional skills of our craft, and are deeply grateful to Michael and all who created the quilt, and all involved in buying and selling tickets for making the raffle possible.”
